Choosing another language
General
Have you booked a date for your wedding or partnership, but is your partner not in command of Dutch? In that case you can choose for a marriage registrar using English, French or German during the official part of the ceremony.
Description
You can arrange and indicate the use of another language until 6 weeks before the day of your wedding or partnership. You can also apply to the city desk (‘stadskantoor’) by appointment.
Other languages
Would either you or your partner not be in command of English, French or German either? In that case you must arrange (in person and at your own expense) an interpreter to translate the ceremony on your behalf. For this purpose the municipality requires:
- a copy of the proof of identity of the interpreter
- documentary evidence of this interpreter being affiliated to an interpreters’ centre
