To put out your waste
In Delft we separate our household waste. This includes organic waste (GFT), paper and cardboard, plastic packaging (PMD), textiles, and glass. By separating your waste, you help make recycling possible. It’s better for the environment and it reduces the amount of residual waste.
Mini containers
Do you live in a house with a garden? In that case you probably have your own mini container provided by the municipality. These containers are used for separating different types of household waste. You usually have containers for:
Type of household waste | Color of the container | Mandatory or not |
---|---|---|
Organic waste (GFT) | Green | Mandatory |
Paper and cardboard | Blue | Not mandatory |
Plastic packaging (PMD) | Purple lid or a PMD sticker | Mandatory |
Avalex is the waste collector in Delft. The website of Avalex provides more information about the days when household waste will be collected. You could also use the Avalex app.
Underground waste containers
Do you live in an upstairs apartment or a gallery flat? Then please take your waste to the underground containers in your neighbourhood or use the collection containers in your residential building. You could check the website of Avalex for the location of the underground containers near you. Or use the Avalex app.
Rules for presenting personal waste bins
- Place the mini container at the designated collection point with the handles facing the street.
- You can do this from 9:00pm on the evening before collection day until 7:30am on the collection day.
- Place the mini container with the lid closed (do not let branches or other waste stick out).
- Do not put waste next to the mini container.
- Remove the mini container from the street as soon as possible after it has been emptied (do this before 9:00pm).
- The mini container must not be placed in a back alley or in public spaces.
City center
Do you live in the city center? What you can do with your waste depends on the type of housing you live in.
- Do you live in a house with a garden? Then you have your own mini containers for organic waste (mandatory), paper and cardboard, and residual waste.
- Do you live in an upstairs apartment or a gallery flat? Then please take your waste to the underground containers in your neighbourhood or use the collection containers in your residential building.
- Residual waste (in bags) and paper and cardboard (bundled or in boxes) can also be placed at designated collection points. This is allowed on the collection day between 6:00 and 7:30am. You can recognize the collection points by the tiles with a waste bag symbol.
- In the city center, you can also use a small organic waste bin (GFT bin) for your green waste.
Organic waste bin (GFT bin)
When you live as a resident in the city center, you place the organic waste bin (GFT bin) in front of your home. Avalex empties the bin once a week. Do you live in a residential building? Then you can empty the bin into a GFT container inside the building, or into an (underground) GFT container in the neighbourhood.
Do you live in the city center and would you like to request a GFT bin? Or do you no longer want to use your GFT bin and wish to return it? Please contact Avalex.
Report or request
- Is your mini container damaged, missing, or not emptied?
- Would you like to request an extra mini container or GFT bin
- Would you like a smaller (140-liter) or larger (240-liter) mini container?
- Is an underground container full? Or would you like to report dumped waste?
Self-drop-off
Does your waste not fit in your mini container? Take it to the recycling center at Voltaweg 11. Open Monday to Saturday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Don’t forget to bring your (digital) Avalex pass.
